Debt can be a pretty nasty trap.
The more forms of behavior change you can throw at it to get out the better:
- Spiritual Conviction - God wants his people free
- Relational Agreement with your spouse
- Behavioral modification techniques - Cash Envelopes
- The Sense of Regaining Hope
- Educating myself on how money really works
For me personally, it took a deep spiritual conviction from listening to The Dave Ramsey Show and Money Matters from Crown Financial Ministries. I came to realize the way I was managing God's Provision was all wrong. No Plan. No Priorities. No Purpose. No Prayer. No Peace. (All of these P's have the possibility to make a really good talk or even a book on the P's of Personal Finance.)
In the effort to chase credit card points and rebates I was overspending way too much. (Not so much that I couldn't pay off the bills every month, but if it meant my tithe didn't happen to pay Visa so be it.)
