Why does God allow bad things to happen? I remember one time when I was learning to ride a two wheeler. No more training wheels! My Dad let go of the bike and I went skidding down and scraped one of my knees. There was quite a bit of blood and the stinging wouldn’t stop. Why had Dad let go of me?
We can take the same approach with God. Sometimes the circumstances don’t make sense. It may feel like God has
abandoned you. Let go of you. Allowed you to scrape your knee. The pain may still be stinging… But believe me, He is still there.
He is by your side!
I don’t know why God allows certain things to happen, but I do know He loves us and cares deeply about us. Often in our greatest struggles, we learn to depend more on Him, trust Him competely, and seek His will rather than our own.
Was listening to Ten Avenue North’s “By Your Side” this morning at the recommendation of my beautiful wife, Karen. The chorus is so fitting:
‘Cos I’ll be by your side wherever you fall
In the dead of night whenever you call
And please don’t fight these hands that are holding you
My hands are holding you”
You see God is always holding us, always there even when it appears He is absent. He often allows us to scrape our knees so that we get experience, we learn the lesson He is teaching. We are being prepared for the next chapter He has for our lives. Pain doesn’t feel like comfort, but it is the glue that keeps us stuck to Him!
